This is where I go when I want to really impress someone.  Great food, great service, small and intimate.  Try the tasting menu with wine pairing: amazing.

My husband and I went to Bashan for our wedding anniversary.  The food and service was good.  I am a fan of small plates for dinner and this place was excellent!

I've read many reviews on Bashan, so it's been on my radar for quite some time. I was excited to hear that Chef Nadav Bashan used to be the sous chef at Providence where he worked with Chef Michael Cimarusti. My dining experience at Providence was nothing short of amazing, so I knew that Chef Bashan would not disappoint.

Last Wednesday, I met up with one of my childhood friends. I hadn't seen her in a long time, so I was excited to be able to catch up with her and indulge on some good food. I got to the Bashan a few minutes early so I went  inside to check out the place. The staff greeted me as I walked though the door, and they were very welcoming. The restaurant was very cozy and gave out such a good vibe. For a fine dining restaurant, it did't feel stuffy one bit. Since the restaurant was a little empty (it just opened) I got to choose any table I wanted, so I sat at a table near the window and waited for my friend to arrive.

I quickly scanned the wine menu and settled on a glass of Chardonnay. It was very dry and crisp. You could smell the citrus and fruit accents. It was just what I needed after a long day at work.

A few minutes later, my friend arrived and we agreed on treating ourselves to the Prix Fixe Menu. $40 for a 3 course meal is such a great deal. We had the following dishes:

Amuse bouche: Butternut squash soup, cinnamon paprika oil, toasted pepitas, and chives

Braised Pork Belly Asian Style
Daikon 2x, pickled ginger & garlic puree, charred shishito pepper

Hokkaido Scallop
shitake mushrooms. Chorizo, mussels, leeks, roasted tomato

Panna Cotta
Pomegranate granite, kalamata olive caramel, puff pastry biscuits

and

Chocolate Coulant
Passion fruit puree, cocoa nibs, hazelnut toffee, vanilla ice cream

The restaurant got pretty full by our second course, and yet the service was on point. You could tell that they really pay attention to details over there. Overall, I was very pleased with this dinner. The amuse bouche was a perfect start to our meal. All of the dishes were well executed and the flavors were spot on. Each dish had me craving for more and left me excited for what was to come.

Bashan is truly a hidden gem. I can't believe it's been open for nearly 3.5 years, and this is the first time  I've eaten here. In all honesty, I never would have thought that Glendale would have such a wonderful place, but I definitely will be returning again and again.

I can't wait to try their 5 course tasting menu. TO BE CONTINUED.... =)

Don't go here hungry!  Excellent food but VERY small portions and VERY expensive!  My wife and I heard about how great the food was and decided to try it.  We are not big eaters and not very large people but this was ridiculous.  Four bites for the main course!  We spent over $200 for two people for dinner and left hungry.  We stopped at In & Out burgers for a double double on the way home.  We are glad we tried it once but never again.

If you are looking for a restaurant with extremely tasty seasonal food this is it. If you are looking for a bargain or large portions look elsewhere.

When we went they had their winter menu. We started off with an appetizer of house made ricotta and wild mushroom ravioli. Delicious.

I got the roasted duck breast that came with braised Romaine, Cipollini Onions, Almonds, Date Puree, Pickled Red Jalapeno, Duck Jus

My honey got the prime flat iron steak with Cauliflower, Black Trumpet Mushrooms, Pearl Onions, Figs, Veal Jus

The flavors on all the dishes complimented each other perfectly and everything was cooked perfectly.

Exquisite food.

I did take off a star because it was pricey.

We went on a Wednesday night and was able to sample their $40 prix fixe.  It was definitely a great way to try out their food as this was our first time.  I had the braised asian style pork belly to start with.  It was sweet with a slight crunch on its crust.  My wife had the pork chop for dinner and it was moist, juicy and full of flavor.  I had the scallops which were cooked perfectly.  It had a great crust and a great tasting sauce.  the only thing I didn't like was the lop cheung (chinese sausage) bits that came with the dish.  I left all those behind.  The warm chocolate cake was very good compared to the carrot cake I had.  I'm a sucker for warm chocolate cake but I thought I'd try the carrot cake.  It was a too cold for my taste.  Who am I to say but I think the carrot cake would've tasted better warm.

My wife and I will definitely be back on another date night. The restaurant had a romantic ambience and was much nicer when the restaurant was emptier earlier in the evening.  It was still nice but got quite noisy when a few parties showed up.

I have dined at Bashan several times.  The restaurant is in a cute neighborhood, but it's a bit hidden.... the first time I went I passed the damn place twice and my car is equipped with a navigation.  The menu has a good selection and the food is prepared perfectly.  I do love the Hokkaido Scallops!  The pork chop is also a great choice.  Check out the place if you enjoy great food and a cozy environment.

I've been here twice.  The first time I brought my dad and we shared an appetizer and a salad, each got our own entree, and shared a cheese plate for dessert.  My dad went home and raved to my mom about what a great meal it was - and he is a tough critic.  The second time I had the tasting menu with wine pairings and it was memorable and delicious, and I savored every bite.  It's a little gem of a place considering it's in Montrose.
